excerpt from telescope eyes, HD single-channel video, 3 minutes 35 seconds, 2020

“telescope eyes” is a journey through a gridded image world full of cliched, overwrought scenes of joy. Pushing simple, repetitive gestures of children dancing with fireworks, people eating picnics in the park, and birthday parties through the grid breaks it and makes this grid a living, palpable thing. Images are set against each other, reduced to something closer to signal, while glimpses of narratives including a child and parent looking through a telescope and seeing an astronaut, children playing and laughing, people embracing, kissing and spinning unfold. The rituals of looking and being collapse and fold into each other, opening up a space to imagine new ways forward.
